A Northern Ontario Tradition Celebrating Agriculture, Homecraft & Community Spirit

The Matheson Fall Fair, presented by the Matheson Agricultural Society, is a proud rural tradition in Northeastern Ontario, bringing together agriculture, homecraft, and community pride each fall in the town of Matheson, Ontario. For generations, the fair has provided an opportunity for farm families, residents, and visitors to celebrate agricultural achievement, creativity, and the resilient spirit that defines northern farming communities.

A Fair Rooted in Northern Settlement & Agricultural Development

The Matheson Fall Fair traces its origins to the early 20th century, when settlers established farms throughout the Clay Belt region of Northeastern Ontario. With fertile soil and expanding agricultural settlement, agricultural societies became essential in helping farmers share knowledge, improve livestock and crops, and strengthen community bonds.

Early fairs featured livestock exhibitions, garden produce displays, baking and preserves, sewing, and demonstrations of essential homesteading skills—traditions that remain an important part of the fair today.

Agriculture at the Heart of the Matheson Fair

Agriculture continues to form the foundation of the fair, reflected through a variety of exhibits and competitions, including:
