Discover a Historic Water-Powered Mill
Located in the historic hamlet of Tyrone in Durham Region, Tyrone Mills offers visitors a rare opportunity to see a traditional water-powered grist mill still producing flour using time-honoured methods.
Originally built in the 1840s, the mill continues to grind grain using large millstones powered by water from a nearby creek. Visitors can watch demonstrations of the milling process and learn how wheat and other grains are transformed into flour using techniques that date back more than a century.
The mill also features a popular bakery and farm shop, where visitors can purchase freshly baked breads, cookies, and other treats made using the mill’s stone-ground flour. Many guests enjoy sampling the baked goods while exploring the historic mill building.
